Social Media and Immediate Connections

11 Feb

So here’s one thing I’ve figured out in the very short period of time since I began my blog:

Blogging (and commenting) is an incredibly great way to receive insightful responses and create connections. For instance, I recently posted a question on the Canadian Council of Public Relations Firms blog regarding the level of education needed or desired in the public relations industry. While the answers varied a little, an overarching theme was certainly that experience counts. Thank you to all those who responded to the question. I’ve given it a lot of consideration and I’ve decided that I will pursue the Masters I was accepted into, and will seek to gain experience in the field while completing my coursework on the side.

As far as connections go, I was also informed of a professional development event being hosted by the IABC Grand River chapter in Kitchener-Waterloo. It’s called “The Power of Social Media” and Joseph Thornley of Thornley Fallis and 76design will be speaking. Also, the event is being held on my birthday at the same restaurant where my fiancee proposed to me. Have the stars suddenly aligned or what?

If this is the result of one week of blogging, I will most certainly be continuing. And I’ll update later this week after the seminar on Tuesday!

Thanks for the suggestion ben! You’re my first comment, woohoo! And I hate to say this…but how do I go about adding a blogroll? I admit I haven’t had a chance to really sit down and go through some of the finer details of blogger. I’m thinking of trying to work in some photos and video stuff too. But I’m working on that for later on
