Information Overload

8 Oct

(cross-posted from my public relations student blog…)

Right now, at this very moment I have to say I am on information overload. It’s coming at me from all different directions and it’s a matter of trying to retain, filter and organize it all in to neat little compartments:

Cubby-hole number one: Masters courses
Cubby-hole number two: work
Cubby-hole number three: PR course
Cubby-hole number four: Speaker at Third Tuesday last night
Cubby-hole number five: Podcast on the way to work this morning…..

And the list goes on…and on…and on.

So what happens when all of these neat little cubby holes start to encroach on each other?

For instance, I attended Third Tuesday and listened to Niall Cook talk about his thoughts on organizational use of social media, as outlined in his book, Enterprise 2.0. On the way home, I listened to a podcast by a professor of mine, Dr. Marco Adria about social software and it’s implications as a communications technology. Before I went to bed, I read about the early days of radio transmission and its social effects as an emerging technology at the time.

All of these items are of interest to me, and all of them, in some way or another relate to each other. So how do I go about organizing those thoughts and sharing that information with others? Well, I’ll let you know when I find out. I’m doing an assignment on Personal Knowledge Management, and I’ll keep you posted.

In the meantime, I will try not to self-destruct.
